Minden Panoramic Lookout
Stretching views over Minden and beyond will impress from this easily accessible lookout point. Take South Lake Road (off Highway 35) and follow for 0.5 km (0.3 mi) to the turnoff on the left.

The Dorset Tower was constructed in 1922 as a lookout for forest fires. When modern technology removed the necessity of the tower, the community endeavored to keep it functioning as it had become a local landmark. Today, the Corporation of the Township of Algonquin Highlands operates a kiosk with local information and souvenirs, and has placed viewfinders at the bottom and top of the tower. The structure is 100 feet high, and is 456 feet over the Lake of Bays. The view is particularly appealing in the fall when the autumn colours make the area most vibrant. Note the ‘Use at own risk.’ sign. Picnic sites and hiking trails are in the area. Fees apply. Open May to October, dependent on weather.
